Commissioned in 2013/14, the oilseeds processing complex of “Delta Wilmar CIS” LtLC moved to the next level of its development. In particular, the season of 2014/15 was marked by branching out the high oleic sunflower oil. The main value and point of difference of this product from others is a high oleic acid content (over 80%) having positive effect upon the human health. In addition, it contains no transfats and is more resistant to the high temperatures, which makes it optimal for deep-frying, using as a margarine component, etc. An important feature of the high oleic sunflower oil is its higher cost, in contrast to the sunflower oil. At the same time, handling the high oleic oilseeds requires well coordinated work of all the company units in order to minimize the risks of mixing the high oleic sunflower with the commercial one. Andrii Chaikovskyi, Director of the oilseeds processing complex of “Delta Wilmar CIS” LLC, and Yuri Shalamay, Director for Trade, in their interview to APK-Inform Agency told how to ensure the ultra-high end product quality.
— Mr. Shalamay, what trends in cultivation of the high oleic sunflower in Ukraine you could set apart?
— According to our estimates, about 130 K tons of the high oleic sunflower were produced in Ukraine in 2014/15. Therewith, in 2015/16, in view of the increased demand on the part of such processors as “ADM”, “Cargill, Inc.”, “Delta Wilmar CIS” LLC, CJSC “Creativ”, JSC “Melitopol OEP”, “Avis” LLC and others, we anticipate an upsurge in the farmers’ interest in cultivating the above oilseed and, consequently, its improved yields to 140 K tones. The representatives of the seed supplying companies have already advised of pickup in orders for the high oleic sunflower seeds for a 2015/16 seedtime. At the same time, they note the high oleic sunflower seed supply shortage in Ukraine because the bulk of the seed grains is sold to Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Spain, expanding this oilseed plantings.
